On HOPE

Your prompts eased me in, and allowed me to connect to myself, my own joy and my experiences, and explore using those in my writing in a new way. It felt so playful.

On FEAR

Jacky’s poetry writing course was amazing. Everybody should honour themselves the time to think and learn more about themselves in this very cleverly put together poetry writing group.

Book

Stop the world I want to get off

I bought this beautiful collection of poems thinking I would dip in, reading one now and again. Instead, I found myself devouring it from cover to cover in one glorious sitting.
The writing is warm, compassionate and completely accessible. Reading the poems made me feel I was in the presence of an old friend. More than that, they made me feel understood.

Introducing

The Therapeutic Poet

I have a confession. I’m a poet, but I wrote a poem called ‘Poetry makes me puke’. You see, I was always a bit scared of the poetry I read at school, even though I went on to study English at university.

I would feel inadequate when I didn’t understand it.

It’s funny then, that writing poetry has been my refuge, because I think that poetry can actually be magical. I think that the magic of poetry is in how it makes you feel when you read or write it.

My poems have been my companions. Like I say in my book, when I’m feeling fearful, I have a choice. I can either believe it, feed it, watch it grow ears and fangs and viciousness, or I can look it right in the eye and sing it a song. That is what my poems do.

And I want to share that feeling, which is why I have created writing workshops which are not about the end product at all, but about how the process of writing your truth in a way that does not feel exposing can help you create your own refuge in an ever changing, unpredictable world as you navigate your human tricky things.
